DALLAS -- The Dallas Police Department is taking over the city's 911 system.
For the past 14 years, Dallas Fire and Rescue managed the 911 call center. But, starting Wednesday, the Police Department will start taking over operations.
The switchover has been in the works for several months and officials with the Police Department said the change will allow them to be more responsive to officers in the field.
